Why I Support Barack Obama – Why You Should Too

I am a 23 year old who comes from a fairly conservative family, and I myself have identified with the Republican Party and their ideals in the past. However, despite my conservative upbringing I find myself drawn to Senator Obama. My admiration, interest, and respect for Obama have grown as my views have shifted to match his and the Democratic Party as I have aged.

However, it is far more than Senator Obama’s policies that have caught my attention. It is my firm belief that he is the right person for the job of uniting this country. I often hear people of my parents’ generation speak of men like Kennedy and Regan who united this country – who gave Americans a reason to believe in America again, and who made people proud of America. I want that feeling, but I fear that I might not experience that feeling if this election does not favor Senator Obama.

Maybe I am naïve, but I firmly believe that we as Americans really are not that different. Sure we have things that we disagree on, but I do not believe we are as bitterly divided as some political leaders and members of the media would have us believe. Our problem is that for so long we have not had a leader who can reach out to us – all of us – and bring us together. Someone who can unite us and make us believe in our country again. Someone who can provide us with genuine optimism in our future in these times of uncertainty. Senator Obama is that special someone.

Mr. Gore, I ask you to hear the plea of me and many others and to take this opportunity to pledge your support to Senator Obama and help make this country great again.
