The Speech that Was Heard Around the World

Dear Mr. Gore:

I just saw Barack Obama’s speech tonight in Pennsylvania. I am beside myself with worry that this man may not win the nomination because of deep set fears harbored by too many americans. I am so tired of politics as sound bites. And yet, once again, we are watching the sound bites whittle away at a strong and able candidate. A candidate that can bring democrats back into the fold. When I heard his speech tonight, I felt like I was witnessing something historic. Like being there for the gettysberg address. His character and comportment portend a true leader.

I think it is time for the big guns in the democratic party to come out for the candidate they believe in, be it Barack or Sen. Clinton. And you, of course, are one of the biggest guns. Please don’t wait for some back room deal at the convention where no one will know the truth about how it all goes down. Please, come out and endorse someone. Anyone. And encourage your fellow democrats to do the same. This primary is historic–so far for good reasons, but please don’t let us lose ourselves to petty arguments and speculation that will turn the excited electorate sour.

Of course, I hope you will endorse Sen. Obama. He seems your type.

Thank you, Mr. Gore.

Sincerely,
