Dear Mr. Gore:

I just saw Barack Obama’s speech tonight in Pennsylvania. I am beside myself with worry that this man may not win the nomination because of deep set fears harbored by too many americans. I am so tired of politics as sound bites. And yet, once again, we are watching the sound bites whittle away at a strong and able candidate. A candidate that can bring democrats back into the fold. When I heard his speech tonight, I felt like I was witnessing something historic. Like being there for the gettysberg address. His character and comportment portend a true leader.

I think it is time for the big guns in the democratic party to come out for the candidate they believe in, be it Barack or Sen. Clinton. And you, of course, are one of the biggest guns. Please don’t wait for some back room deal at the convention where no one will know the truth about how it all goes down. Please, come out and endorse someone. Anyone. And encourage your fellow democrats to do the same. This primary is historic–so far for good reasons, but please don’t let us lose ourselves to petty arguments and speculation that will turn the excited electorate sour.

Of course, I hope you will endorse Sen. Obama. He seems your type.

Thank you, Mr. Gore.

Sincerely,

Beth Doherty
Summit, NJ

Mr. Gore,
I am so proud of the work that you are doing to bring attention to the condition of our world. I know that you care about the country. Your actions speak louder than your words. However, words are powerful too. Perhaps you have heard the words of Sen. Obama. He is dreamy and optomistic. He may sound a bit “out there,” but that could be said of a lot of environmentalists who have been preaching about global warming for years. Before it was “in” to go green, these people were seen as a part of the lunatic fringe. But they were right. And so Obama! Your words carry a lot of weight. You are a rightfully respected man (who had an election stolen from him–okay, I said it), and I pray that you will join the movement for change and join the Obama team.

Thank you

Dear Vice President Gore,

We strongly feel that Obama is the future of this country. He is inspiring and is bringing young voters out in droves. He is what this country needs.

He is, most importantly, a uniter. He is capable of reaching across party lines to get things accomplished and that is what has drawn me to support him. I do not feel that this could be accomplished with a Clinton presidency. Bill Clinton was an incredible president ~ but we are not electing Bill again.

We NEED Barack Obama ~ please throw your support behind him and endorse him before it is too late.

We again need your help and I ask that you would consider endorsing Barack Obama for President.

The sign of a great leader is not someone who commands excellence; it is someone who can build excellence. Barack Obama has shown the ability as you do to attract and motivate and, most of all, inspire. These are such important qualities for our next president to have.
Obama has shown he has strong character, drive, energy, determination and self-discipline, and has shown the ability to work successfully with all parties involved in the political system. Underneath the continually distorted news media sound bites I see a candidate who has the ability to verbalize his vision. He can guide us, the people; to want to do, what we know must be done.

bring this country together, to believe again in our politicians and to trust
in our Commander in Chief. That person is Senator Obama. He inspires people
for our country in a way I thought I never would. Please look at what is at
again. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I hope this email is reaching you in the best of health and spirits.

It says something powerful when you have the largest pool of small campaign donors in the history of presidential elections. It says something powerful when you can lure 30,000 ordinary people to a political rally, especially when you do so in a country whose leader doesn’t wear fatigues or put his image on the nation’s money.

If President Obama can accomplish two or three of the changes that candidate Obama has laid out, that would be a vast improvement for the country. But what I’m really rooting for is that he will help rekindle that spirit of civic engagement and community that is the lifeblood of this experiment called democracy. In the end, it’s not about Obama. It’s about us!

Please give consideration to endorsing Senator Obama.

Mr. Al Gore,

WE THE PEOPLE NEED YOU AND BARACK OBAMA - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

I supported you then and why I support Barack Obama now: I care about the future of this country in which my children will live and work and I care about the condition of the planet and the air that my randchildren will breathe. I believe all Americans have the right to excellent education and excellent affordable health care. I believe that together we can all make a difference.

On February 5th, we have a chance to make history. I am supporting Barack Obama because he is the only candidate who offers inspiration. Negative perceptions of the United States can be changed by Barack’s unique brand of charisma, intelligence and insight.

Imagine President Obama representing us as the face of a new United States, the true bearer of peace and freedom. Barack can also change negative divisions at home as John Kennedy did in the 60’s, enabling all of us to unite and work for a common purpose. Remember â??when John Kennedy thought of going to the moon, he didnâ??t say no, it was too far, maybe we couldnâ??t get there and shouldnâ??t even try.â??

The inspiring speeches of Martin Luther King stirred in us a sense of right and wrong, waking us up from ignorance and fear. King convinced us that we were better than a nation divided by hatred and fear.

Today, we are lulled into apathy and driven to fear by old-school politicians. We now need a person who will once again inspire us to ask not what this country can do for you but what together we can do for the good of all mankind. We now need a young, vigorous, intelligent, compassionate and courageous person who will represent us to the world. We now need a person who can defuse our enemies instead of blowing them up.

I am voting for Barack Obama because he is the only candidate who offers real change, hope, strength, character and inspiration. I urge everyone to support Barack Obama, have the courage to choose change and make incredible history on February 5th and in NOVEMBER!

YES WE CAN! click for video http://www.dipdive.com/

Dear Mr. Gore,

I’ve decided that if Barack Obama doesn’t win the Democratic nomination, then I don’t think I’ll ever vote again. Before his win in Iowa, I thought I could go for any Democrat…I prefered Kucinich above them all, and Obama was my #1 real choice, but I thought they were basically all good. Not so anymore.

I used to LOVE Bill Clinton. My friends know that I was formerly of the opinion that sex with him wouldn’t even be gay. But now…well, he’s broken my heart. The shameless campaign of misinformation that Hillary has orchestrated against Obama — in cahoots with Bill, whose gift for acerbic rhetoric had previously been lost on me — has indeed left a most sour taste in my mouth. From spreading lies about Obama’s “muslim” education, to diminishing Martin Luther King’s role in the Civil Rights Movement, to spreading falsehoods about Obama’s pro-choice record, the Clintons have lost all sense of propriety along their warpath to the Whitehouse.

This has of course made Hillary the candidate of cynicism. I’m not sure what she stands for, other than the fact that she seems to vehemently stand against Obama’s “fairy tale” bid for the presidency. But what American doesn’t love a happy ending?

And what does Obama stand for? Hope that the Gen X’ers might clean up what many of the Baby Boomers left in ruin (i.e. the world). Reconciliation for a country whose racial past has always diminished its moral standing. Wisdom (hey, I’m just quoting Toni Morrison here) in government. The true shame is that he is the Bill Clinton promise fulfilled — lord knows Bill would be piloting Obama’s bandwagon, were his wife not driving her own.

I believe these things about Obama like I believe them about no one else, and I am struck by an overwhelming feeling of apathy and sadness when I imagine his possible loss, even while I now still believe that he can do it.

But if he doesn’t secure the nomination, who else will take up his mantel? This ain’t the 60s…we don’t have Martin Luther Kings and John F Kennedys at the same time anymore. We haven’t had one in 40 years. And if we lose the one we have now, how long will we have to wait until the next?

Mr. Gore, please endorse Senator Obama. The world needs your help, yet again.

Sincerely,

Christian Herwitz

I would encourage you to endorse Barack Obama as I do believe that he will be your man who brings us changes and makes a dramatic impact on the USA. Even in a case of which he might happen to lose this election, I’m sure endorsing him at the present time will be a great fortune to your future political career and you will not regret the endorsement in your later life.

I am a supporter of Barack Obama’s campaign. I know you are faced with a difficult decision with who to endorse for president. I am writing to let you know that I think that it is vital for the future of this country for you to endorse Senator Obama. He is the candidate that is most likely to take down the Republicans in November. He is also the candidate most ready to make the changes this country needs on day one. He alone is capable of inspiring people, democrat and republicans to solve the challenges we face. I urge you to please stand with Senator Obama and embrace his vision for change!

Mr. Gore,

Please consider lending your support to the Obama campaign. This country is spiraling downwards with the passing of each day and we need a leader that can restore us as the country where dreams come true. A country where anyone can succeed, and anyone is allowed to pursue happiness, whatever the word may mean to them. I believe that only a Democrat can lift us out of this rut, and I also believe that Barack Obama is the right choice. Independent voters and moderate conservatives will most likely side with John McCain (assuming he wins the Republican nomination) if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee. I think that Barack has the right stuff to sway some Republicans, and certainly has the power to get independent voters. Please Mr. Gore, lend your support to this great man, to this great campaign, to this great country. Support Barack Obama.

Thank you,
GH Bragond

Dear Al Gore,

I know that it is difficult to go out on a limb and endorse a candidate for change. I still think it is important for you to do this as soon as possible and that is why I encourage you to endorse Barack Obama for President. I think he would make a great President because he stresses how progressive values are common to everyone, and thus can create a new Democratic majority, so that many of our country’s lingering, and potentially devastating problems will be solved.

It is important you endorse Barack Obama prior to February 5th. I know a few people who think of you as their top choice for President, and who are planning on voting for Hillary Clinton. If you endorsed Barack Obama, you might sway these voters.

So, Mr. Gore, please consider endorsing Barack Obama prior to the elections coming up this Tuesday.

Sincerely,
Timothy Sandoe

I ask you to endorse Barack Obama, because I believe he has the most promise of any candidate in really fighting for our environment. This question was asked of Obama by a New Hampshire independent voter, and his response speaks volumes:

“If you could make one change in the world, enact one piece of legislation — one thing, that’s all you’re going to get through in your presidency — what would it be?” asked Peter Colby of Rye, N.H.

After thinking it over for a few seconds, Mr. Obama offered this response:

“I would enact a bold energy policy because I think that we could save so much money, engineer such a resurgence in our economy and solve climate change all at one time. And it would improve our national security posture. So you get a three-fer. It helps our environment, our economy and our national security and it would free up resources over time to deal with what I think is the most important domestic issue which is health care, and I think it would help us strategically on the international stage.”

Thank you for your inspirational work in the fight against global warming and for our environment, and congratulations on that Nobel Prize.

Mr. Gore,

You have been right about so many of the issues that our generation has faced over the last several years…and although I wish I could vote for you in this election but I can’t. I am 26 years the first time that I voted was in the 2000 presidential election, an election where I believe our government failed us and subsequently we have spent the last 7 years in the dark. My friends are in Iraq, my family is constantly stressed about economic problems and my planet continues to suffer. But we the people believe that we have found another leader who is willing to do what is right and not just what is popular, a man who is willing to put himself out there to inspire others to be better. I have always been jealous of past generations that have had amazing leaders and not just politicians. I watch footage of speeches made by JFK and FDR and hope that maybe just maybe someone will take a stand and inspire us to be better. Well I don’t know if Senator Obama is that man, but he did inspire
me to write this letter to you and become more active in politics and to volunteer at schools in my area and help raise awareness about parts of he world whose brightest days don’t even begin to compare to our darkest days and urge my friends and family who have never voted before to do so this year but most importantly he has inspired myself and my generation to believe that we can be better. With the proper leadership we can be better than any of us
could even begin to imagine.

Sir, you literally have the power to alter the course of history with press conference, with one statement, with one endorsement of a single man that represents so much than we had thought. As a citizen of the United States of America and more importantly as a member of the human race I ask you to do the right thing.

Dear Mr. Vice President:

My name is Erin Moyse. I am 25 years old, and am a volunteer for the Tampa Bay O-Train, a grassroots group who has tirelessly dedicated itself to supporting Senator Obama’s campaign. Being Floridians, it has been a tough year for our party and our candidate, but we have been pushing as hard as we can to help in the early states and the other states whose votes ‘count’. I was not old enough to vote for you when you ran in 2000, but have been a
supporter since I was old enough to know who you were. I had never been seriously involved in the political process until I heard Senator Obama speak for the first time. Immediately, I was a believer. We have the opportunity now to show the kind of foresight that Senator Barack Obama illustrated when he opposed the war from the start, and it is for this reason that I ask that you endorse his candidacy.

Please consider endorsing Senator Obama’s campaign for President. I feel that his motives and inspirations are much more along the lines of yours than the rest of his opponents, and while I have the utmost respect for President Clinton, I do not feel that Hillary can unite the country the way Barack can. Senator Obama is the one candidate who can unite our country in this time of great turmoil. He has inspired the young, the old, the politically apathetic and so many in between, to not only have faith again in the political process as a whole, but also to take the personal responsibility and initiative to be actively involved in it. This is why I support him, and why I ask you to support his efforts as well.

Thank you.
Erin L. Moyse

Dear Mr. Vice President:

I am writing to ask that you follow the examples of Caroline and Edward Kennedy and offer an endorsement of Barack Obama.

The substantive differences between Clinton and Obama are not enormous. However, it is TIME for the torch to pass to a new generation. Obama will do more to heal our understanding of one another at home. He is genuinely a unifying rather than, as it the case with Hillary, a polarizing force. Even more decisive, Barack will do more to restore America’s reputation in the world than will Hillary.

For these — and because Barack is bringing so many young people into the system and asking them to sacrifice — I ask that you lend your voice to the growing chorus of those who are endorsing Obama. And I ask, moreover, that you campaign actively on his behalf.

With respect,

John (Martin)

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I am writing to you in the hopes that you will endorse Senator Obama in the upcoming election. I believe that Obama represents what would be best for this country. I believe that his ideas are similar to your own on what is best for this country. He has many ideas to help the environment, a topic near and dear to yourself. I could go on and talk more about his positions and your own, but I am sure you are busy, so I will keep it short.

I write this to ask you to endorse Sen. Obama, for many reasons. One of my main ones is that I live in Texas. It seems that the race will have been decided by March 4th when our primary rolls around, and your endorsement of Obama will greatly help his chances of receiving the nomination for President of the United States, an event many of us in Austin, TX are looking forward to.

PS: Loved you in Futurama!!

You should not support Barack Obama because the Clintons abandoned you in your 2000 campaign for president. That betrayal was certainly one factor that led to eight long years of a Bush presidency. Al, you should not support Obama even though you recognize that Hillary and Bill are despicable. That they lie almost every day on the campaign trail. That they break rules and agreements. That they are race baiting, swift boating, and resorting to Rovian tactics in their relentless quest for power. You even recognize these things, and that the Clinton’s are seeking to exploit and deepen rifts in an already divided nation. Even still, none of these are reasons to endorse Barack Obama.

You should endorse Barack Obama because he is a uniter in the absolute widest sense of the word. It is not simply that he has the potential to unite this nation (that much is quite obvious). Barack Obama has the potential to unite the entire world. As a leader who bravely and wisely opposed the Iraq war from the beginning, and who respects international institutions, he will help to unite America and Europe. As a son of Africa, Obama would have a unique opportunity to form bonds of trust and cooperation between many African nations and the United States. Barack Hussein Obama could even begin to mend the great divide between the West and the Muslim world. By electing a man who grew up with Muslim children, who understands the suffering of Palestinians, a man with the name Hussein, we are sending a strong message to Muslims: Americans do not hate or fear Islam. We simply loath the killers who act in its name.

Al Gore, you must endorse Barack Obama, because this is our moment. This is a turning point in history, and Barack Obama is the leader that is destined to take us to the future. Years from now, our school curriculums will have undergone a change. In addition to learning about FDR, JFK, and MLK, children in the future will be taught about BHO. That is why you must endorse Barack Obama for President in 2008.

Sincerely,
America

On face value, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama have very similar policy platforms. The key difference between the last remaining frontrunners for the Democratic nomination, however, is how each plans to enact that platform.

While Mrs. Clinton runs on decades of beating the Republicans, Obama runs on decades of unifying and working together to bring about reconciliation.

In a world with a deadlocked, partisan Congress (despite a narrow Democratic majority), it is clear that Obama’s vision will get the job done far more effectively across the board. His enthusiasm and profound speaking abilities make him the choice candidate both to unite the American people and to serve as our spokesperson to the world, the President of the United States of America.

The key moment is right now, in the wake of the Kennedy endorsements but before the glut of elections on February 5th. If you act now, despite historic ties to the Clintons, we will see even greater energy towards Obama and the movement he embodies. Please.

Dear Mr. Gore,
I cannot express to you my most sincere gratitude, not only for your continuous fight to end global warming, but for your sheer determination to help our environment. You have truly been an inspiration and I am greatly empowered by your compassion.

As a university student studying to become a human rights lawyer, as a cancer survivor and most importantly, as a middle-class American woman, I share a deep concern for environmental sustainability; an issue that is all too often abandoned by the American government. I am constantly confronted with great struggles, but know deep in my heart, the values on which this nation was built: Unity, compassion, liberty and equality.

I urge you today, to continue your fight for ordinary citizens, like myself, who so desperately long to see change in Washington. I urge you today to endorse Senator Barack Obama.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter” and Mr. Gore, today I urge you to, once again, stand up for the things that matter: the environment, education, health care, eradicating poverty and building a new, more prosperous America. I believe that your endorsement for Senator Obama will propel America into a new era; one which will eliminate Washington’s apathy, and rebuild America.

I thank you for your time and appeal to you once more, with sincere hopes that you will endorse Senator Obama.

Mr. Gore,

I am writing you today with a plea that is echoed by many. As you yourself have articulated many times, this country is in dire need of change. The economy, the environment, foreign policy, education, health care - all of these issues will face our next President, and the decisions he or she makes will have serious implications not only for our own futures, but for coming generations. As a revered Democrat and highly respected figure, your endorsement would make a profound impact on the electorate.

I support Sen. Obama in this election because I think he is a force not only for change, but also for integrity, for foresight, and for progress. As these are values and goals that have guided your career over the years, your endorsement is as fitting as it would be influential. I have seen you speak a number of times, and had the honor to meet you and your lovely wife when you visited Shanghai, China in 2007, when I was all of 11 years old. Your courage, candor, and eloquence have always moved me. Please consider giving Sen. Obama your endorsement prior to Super Tuesday. This nation needs a true leader, and you are in a unique position to ensure we get one.

All the best,

Mr. Vice President,

I received an e-mail from Ted Kennedy today which was presumably sent to all Barack Obama supporters comparing Barack Obama’s brand of politics to the “new generation” of politics John F. Kennedy promised. In the e-mail, Sen. Kennedy states “This campaign is about a new generation of leadership today. A generation ready to be part of something bigger than themselves. A generation ready to change the country, and a generation ready to change the world. I’m doing everything I can to elect Barack Obama.”

I was 14 in 1992, when I was swept up by the visit in Buffalo made by the Clinton/Gore campaign. The promise then was similar to what I read today - a new generation of leadership, bipartisanship, a president the country can feel good about during struggling economic and international times - and I believed it. I didn’t just believe the message, I believed the people delivering the message, and while I couldn’t vote, I wished I could. I turned 18 in 1996, and still believed in the people delivering the message, and still had hope. It is irrelevant now whether I, the country, or history looks wistfully, regretfully, or angrily on those years, as, those years are now, history.

It is now 2008. Myself, the country and the world has changed, and so has the perception of the country. We are now engaged in further crises’, some of which are so reminiscent to those times, its incredible - a war in the gulf, concerns about social security, a national need for universal health care, an economic crisis tilting on recession, and the country is as polarized as it has been in my lifetime. Politics, and to a lesser extent, the American way of life, has turned into polarization and demonizing anyone who is different, disagrees, or could be considered an opponent. The country can no longer remain divided, and there is no more polarizing figure in American politics today than Hillary Clinton.

I am writing you today, not for my distaste of Hillary Clinton, but for my adoration of Barack Obama. I believe Barack Obama when I look on his website and it says he will fight for the rights of single parents and for father’s paying child support. I believe Barack Obama when he states he will invest heavily in training and retaining the best teachers, that his higher education plans are the best, and believes america’s future is in the maths and sciences. I believe him when he states we are lagging behind in technology and will invest in getting internet access across the country, while still ensuring an open internet. I believe him when he states he cares about the environment, and I believed him when he voted against the war in Iraq the first time, and remained consistently against the war in Iraq, and never changed his view that the Iraq war was wrong because it diverted us from stopping terrorism, which should remain, and is a key component of his campaign.

Barack Obama appears to be the honest, true, able and ethical leader the country needs at this critical time, and I believe an endorsement from you would be of great signifigance to his campaign, to the party, and would do a service to your country. Your record speaks on its own, as you have built a war chest of trust with the American people and most significantly, democrats still searching for an answer.

Barack Obama appears to solely do what is right, so I urge you to search your soul, realize what is right, and do the right thing.

Thank you for considering,

~Todd Morse
Hamburg, NY

Dear Mr. Gore,

I trust that this email will find you well. I am writing to you for you to support Sen. Obama. While I suggest that you support the person you feel fits your mission. I do ask that you publically endorse Sen. Obama.

This election we face many matters in which our nation CAN NOT be divided. We face matters where you can not ignore the cries of all parties. We face all of the residue from the last past years, and its time for a change.

I do believe that Sen. Clinton feels that she would do well if selected as a Democratic nominee, however, when she was in the role as the first lady, we did not see any change. Laura Bush created more change than Sen. Clinton.

Regardless if he wins the nomination or not, Sen. Obama is a winner, he has changed all of the nation greatly—with his strength, with his inspiration, with his certainity that we need a change in the form of a democratic nation.

If we did not trust Sen. Obama, he would not have any votes, and the race would be done. Yet, its not over, and we feel that we will win, and we need your voice to merge with our voices, and with Sen. Obama’s voice, so we can work hard as hell to improve our nation starting Jan. 20. 2009-until.

On this date, with your help, we can greatly change the page of a bleak past, and a bright future.

Respectfully, Mashawnda Dowell

Dear Al Gore,

I am writing this letter to you as a Republican who is concerned about the future of this country. I believe that the Republican Party has led this country in the wrong direction and needs a serious wakeup call. I got involve din politics in the late nineties, when I was 17 years old, during which time James Dobson met with Republican Senators and gave them an ultimatum. He told the Republicans that he was sick of their lip service, and that if they did not
start to push their Christian agenda, he would leave the party and take the Christians with him. At the time the Republicans stood to lose more seats than they could afford, so they caved in and the party has been held hostage since. I have tried to get involved with the party internally, to see if people’s minds could be changed, to turn the party back in the right direction, but it’s useless. The Christian right has so much power within the party that those of us who still uphold the true values of the party have been completely silenced. The consequences of this have not only been detrimental to the party, but have also been detrimental to our country, and even to the rest of the world.

We may have different ideals and basic fundamental principles. However, what kills me the most about this country is the divide. I am tired of living in a 51/49 country that is fueled by power hungry politicians and a muckraking media that serves nothing but to divide us against ourselves. Regardless of differences in ideals, I am sure that we share some of the same goals. I am sure that both of us want to see an end to the radical agenda of the Christian right. I am sure that we both would like to see unity in our government and among our people. To me, a Democratic president and congress means more than implementing the changes that this country needs to get us back on track. It means sending a message to the radical neoconservative movement that this country is made of people from many creeds and religions, and that we are all bound to the principles of our forefathers to separate church and state, and to let the people decide their own moral value system.

In my opinion, the 2004 election was a Democratic victory laid on the table, waiting for the taking. Your party chose the absolute worst candidate it could have possibly chosen. I urge you not to let your party make the same mistake again. Hillary Clinton is one of the most polarizing and hated candidates of this election. She rides on experience that she really doesn’t have. She’s made personal attacks against her opponents that are demoralizing and her actions reflect very poorly on the party in general. It is clear that the Clintons see this election as a war for power, and do not have the best intentions of this country in mind. Hillary should not get the nomination simply because it’s “her turn”. Barack Obama recently stated that he knows Hillary’s supporters will vote for him, but will his supporters necessarily vote for her over John McCain? Will they side with a Democrat, simply because they are against the Republican Party,
or will they look to a candidate that is more moderate, and more likely to bring people together?

This is a crucial time in our country’s history, and Hillary Clinton believes that leading this country is something that is owed to her. You can help your party by endorsing a candidate who is liked by both sides of the political spectrum, who is well spoken, intelligent and would make a great leader who everyone would be proud of, and who foreign leaders would respect. He is not plagued by scandal and an embarrassing past. He is not a career politician, in bed with big corporations and special interests. He is running for President as an American, not as a candidate that should be judged by gender, race or creed. If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, your party will have made the same mistake as it did in 2004, and will hand the election over to the Republicans on a silver platter. I urge you to endorse Barack Obama for the sake of your
party and your country.

I like John McCain, I believe he will win the Republican nomination. I do believe that he is a moderate candidate that will bring people together, but I do not believe he has the moral authority, or the leadership skills it will take to take on the Christian right and their radical agenda. He would make a great President in the short term, but will do nothing to solve this country’s problems in the long term. He also does not possess the skills I think it will take to win the respect of foreign leaders and to help heal the wounds of our current President’s mistakes. I believe that I share the sentiment of many upset Republicans who are looking for change within the party. This is why I believe that there are many of us who are looking for a leader like Barack Obama, but will not vote for Hillary Clinton under any circumstances.

I’ve seen your movie, An Inconvenient Truth. I’ve seen the things you have done to help this planet and save us from threats of global climate change. You have put yourself out on a limb, often exposing yourself to ridicule in your efforts. I believe in your cause and I believe that you are doing what is right for this planet, and you have shown a backbone and resilience that has served to change people’s perspective on threats to our environment. This nation needs that same leadership from you, at a time where we need strong leaders that are willing to make waves, show a backbone and do the right thing. Your influence could save your party and put this country back in the right direction. This election is too critical for leaders like you to weasel off into the distance and not take a stand.

Do the right thing, endorse Barack Obama. As a Democrat, as an American Patriot, and as a human being.

Sincerely,
Michael Lewandowski

Dear Vice President Gore,

I am a college student who is ready to stand up and take back my country. My generation has answered the call in the last year, whether it be for the fight against climate change or for the fight to keep our neighborhoods free of hate. I am proud to be an American, but as a member of the world community I am also equally as proud to be a part of my generation. We understand that we have been left a world that is less clean than the world our fathers were left. We also
understand that in a time of economic crisis we will have to work twice as hard to maintain the upward social movement of our parents. Vice President, I have worked volunteered on the Sen. Obama campaign and I have seen the bright young people who are determined to win the fight. We all fear that a tipping point is here and it is about time that we take control. Your endorsement would send yet another ring of trust to our parents and peers who have yet to realize that is a moment that we can not misuse. Sen. Obama is a good man, and he would make a great president. Please keep the optimism alive, and not let a generation of good people slip into the degradation of apathy.

-Kevin Smith

Mr. Gore,

I have been a registered Republican for over 20 years. Until the current Bush administration, and the current group of free-spending corrupt Republicans in Congress and the Senate, I was happy. I happily fought against you in 2000 because I could not stand the idea of a Democrat winning.

Today, I am a registered Democrat, because of Senator Barak Obama. He has inspired me to believe things might change in Washington, and, through his books, has used reason and logic to convince me that my positions have been flawed in the past.

However, if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic candidate in the fall, I will vote for whomever the Republican is, and give up completely on the Democratic party as a lost cause. She is the candidate of non-change, as corrupt and power hungry as President Bush.

So, I ask you to please consider endorsing Senator Obama for President, as the candidate who can bring hope to America again, and can renew the Democratic party to its previous glory. Your endorsement would be the most important and powerful way to bring the Democratic core to Senator Obama’s camp. In my opinion, this would be a great thing you would be doing for your country, and for the Democratic party.

Dear Mr. Vice President,

Thank you for your lifetime of dedicated service to this country. Be it the Vietnam War, the House of Representatives, the US Senate, the Vice Presidency, or your current role as an advocate for righting the wrongs of mankind’s abuse of this planet, you have given your strength and intelligence to this country throughout the course of your adult life and as a young American I thank you for doing everything in your power to hand my generation as great a nation as possible.

I believe we have reached a pivotal point in this nation’s history. We have suffered through eight years of unprincipled, irresponsible leadership and a brand of toxic politics that I and many other young Americans find reprehensible. I’ve come to the conclusion that the forthcoming presidential election is too important to sit on the sidelines for.

I would like to take this opportunity to respectfully urge you to endorse Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. It is my feeling that Senator Obama will provide the kind of principled leadership we need to guide this nation through the rest of this decade and into the future. I for one am tired of living in 51/49 nation. I believe Senator Obama posses a unique ability to bring Americans of different walks of life together behind a common cause greater than themselves. It is my earnest belief that an Obama presidency will forever erase the stigma attached to the word “liberal,” ushering in a golden age for progressive ideals and principles. I plan on doing everything I can to make sure this man is elected President. It is my sincerest hope that you Sir will join me, and millions of other Americans of varying ages, ethnicities, and creeds in seeing to it that this opportunity to give this country the future it deserves is not squandered.

Respectfully,
Michael Fitzsimmons

My admiration, interest, and respect for Obama have grown as my views have shifted to match his and the Democratic Party as I have aged.

However, it is far more than Senator Obama’s policies that have caught my attention. It is my firm belief that he is the right person for the job of uniting this country. I often hear people of my parents’ generation speak of men like Kennedy and Regan who united this country – who gave Americans a reason to believe in America again, and who made people proud of America. I want that feeling, but I fear that I might not experience that feeling if this election does not favor Senator Obama.

Maybe I am naïve, but I firmly believe that we as Americans really are not that different. Sure we have things that we disagree on, but I do not believe we are as bitterly divided as some political leaders and members of the media would have us believe. Our problem is that for so long we have not had a leader who can reach out to us – all of us – and bring us together. Someone who can unite us and make us believe in our country again. Someone who can provide us with genuine optimism in our future in these times of uncertainty. Senator Obama is that special someone.

Mr. Gore, I ask you to hear the plea of me and many others and to take this opportunity to pledge your support to Senator Obama and help make this country great again.

Dear Vice President Gore,

I am writing, first of all, to say thank you. The grace, courage, and good humor that you have shown in the intervening years since the your loss in 2000 has been an inspiration to me personally and so many others. To know that you have overcome such a profound disappointment through more civic engagement rather than choosing to withdraw yourself from the process has moved me to do the same - to beat back my cynicism and fight for my beliefs, to fight for this country. You crystallized the necessity of this engagement for me in your staggering documentary about climate change, An Inconvenient Truth. You said that we cannot simply move from the pole of ignorance to the pole of despair about the human correlation to the warming planet, that if we skipped over the intermediate step, we would miss the opportunity to reform at our own peril. Paraphrasing the late Carl Sagan you said in the film, “You see that pale, blue dot? That’s us. Everything that has ever happened in all of human history, has happened on that pixel. All the triumphs and all the tragedies, all the wars all the famines, all the major advances… it’s our only home. And that is what is at stake, our ability to live on planet Earth, to have a future as a civilization. I believe this is a moral issue, it is your time to cease this issue, it is our time to rise again to secure our future.”

That moral urgency is felt more deeply by each passing day, while production and consumption habits march on unaltered. As you highlight in your documentary, we must reduce our carbon emissions by 50 to 80 percent within the next four decades if we are to avoid the catastrophic consequences of the changing climate. And yet, despite this obvious call to action, we lack the appropriate coalition to do so. We cannot afford another four or even eight years of inaction, and as the wealthiest country and largest consumer nation in the world, the imperative to lead on this issue could not be more clear.

Today in Denver, I saw a man who understands the stakes of these next crucial years - of the call to action. At 8:30 AM on a Wednesday, Barack Obama brought more than 10,000 Coloradoans from up and down the state to fit into an arena that holds less than 7,000. Judging by who I met during our two hours as line buddies in the bitter cold, Mr. Obama is capable of enlarging the party and building a coalition for change. As he said today, “It’s time for new leadership so my daughters and your children don’t grow up at a time when our economy is weighed down by the addiction to oil and our planet passes a moment of no-return. I won’t wait to do something about global warming — it is a cause of a generation.” He is drawing young people like myself into this process in a way that no one could predict was possible. His forward thinking, structuralist arguments for reform on any number of issues - climate change, technology and innovation, genocide and instability - make the substantive case that he is the Democratic candidate most able to transform our politics and America’s face to the world. Any other choice is sure to result in the same old math, a 51 percent solution that will not be a mandate for change, and certainly not in consideration of the broad consensus necessary to act on climate change, among other issues.

Your generation marched on Washington seeking equal opportunity and civil rights, rejecting the politics of “Father Knows Best” and organized in hopes of attaining a seat and a voice at the bargaining table. Now you have one, arguably the most important one left to be heard, while my generation - silent for too long - is now awakening to Obama’s call. To say nothing and hedge so as to avoid being on the wrong side of history shows none of the moral courage you have asked of each and every one of us.

Vice President Gore, I urge you to endorse Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee. You have called upon us - now we call upon you.

Signed,

Scott Heiser
Denver, Colorado

Dear Vice President Gore,

Thank you for your lifelong commitment to our country and our planet. As a parent, as an environmentalist, and as an American, I am deeply grateful for all you have done. I write to ask you to do another thing for our country: endorse Barack Obama for President.

I was heartbroken by the election of 2000. My faith in this country and in my own ability to make a difference fractured. It wasn’t until 2003 that I dared to believe again, when I met a man who spoke of our need to be our brother’s and sister’s keeper, how when any of us endure injustice we all are diminished, how we each can be the change we need to see in the world. A man who had been working to be that change for over a decade, on the streets of Chicago and in the halls of Springfield. A man who made me once again feel empowered and inspired politically. A man who was running for the U.S. Senate, but I yearned for him to run for President. That man is Barack Obama.

The election of 2004 was almost as divisive and disturbing as the election of 2000. But in 2008 we have the opportunity to take our country back, by a landslide. By the thousands new voters are being turned on to the Democratic Party and to the political process, largely because Barack Obama has reached out to them, energized them to believe in the power of their own possibility, and inspired them to become involved. We are witnessing a kind of rebirth of America, one in which Americans are daring to dream again, daring to break down the walls of partisanship that have enabled a small group of people to wield a disproportionate amount of power over the rest of us. Republicans and Independents as well as Democrats are flocking to his campaign, desperate to believe not just in our country once again, but in ourselves, and in each other. And together we can do this. Yes we can.

If Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination, he will win the presidency, and by a landslide. No other candidate, Democrat or Republican, is likely to do the same. And with the mandate of the vast majority of the American people supporting him and his platform, he will be able to tackle the great challenges that face our nation and our world. Issues that are dear to your heart will finally be addressed in a thoughtful, intelligent, comprehensive and effective way. You will be able to play a central role in addressing these issues, and we will be all the more grateful to you for it.

But in order for him to win the presidency, he must first win the Democratic nomination. Your endorsement of him will be critical to that end. You are one of the most respected leaders in the Democratic Party; indeed, you are one of the most respected Americans in the world. So many of us deeply, deeply regret that you did not become President, and so many great wrongs have been inflicted upon our country and by our country in the eight years that have followed that tremendous injustice. The time for change has never been more critical in my lifetime; Barack Obama is ideally suited to help deliver that change, and to empower us all to be part of that change as well.

I appreciate the great work you have already done, and you certainly deserve a respite from politics. But your country still needs you, Vice President Gore. The American people need you. Please help us take our country back. Please endorse Barack Obama for President.

Sincerely,

Maeve, Iowa

I live in Canada and I know this is not my job to care for America but your country is very powerful and is in need for help.

Dear Mr Gore,

I spent my time in the states of Mississippi and Alabama. Aware of politics from a pretty young age and with liberal, English parents, I grew up in the 90s experiencing the bitter right-wing politics which have divided the country I loved, and which was my home for many years. My friends at school and the people at my church are wrong on a great many issues, yet many embody the qualities of warmth, courage and honesty for which Americans are proud.

Since my return to the UK, I myself have become involved in the struggle against climate change and global poverty, and now lead a network of student groups engaged on these issues across my country.

But we know, for all our work, that without the hearts and ears of decent people in places like Alabama no progress can be made within the 30 years we have left to act.

That’s why I’m asking you, with full respect for the right of Americans to elect their own president, to support a candidate that can open those hearts and ears in Alabama and beyond, and inspire people across the globe to act to achieve amazing things.

Avenging the hard-fought battles of the 1990s will not bring together the kind of broad coalition of decent, honest people of all stripes, needed to deal with this most pressing of issues. The World needs a president whose appeal can rise above all that, and appeal to the better judgement in Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike, and with the inspiration and integrity to lead a World that, even today, looks to The great American legend for leadership.

President Obama would be a man capable of winning not just the argument, but of winning people’s hearts and inspiring them to act to the better person inside of them.

My generation was born after the Cold War and yet, from our parents and distant memory, remember when the US provided leadership and inspiration to all of us. Please, Mr. Gore, lend your great name to Barack Obama and all that he can achieve and represent.

>Ben West (18), Southampton UK

Vice President Gore,

I’ll be perfectly honest. I’ve never been hugely involved in politics. This is the first letter I’ve ever written to a political figure. I’ve always felt like my opinion didn’t matter much. The first time I was able to vote for President was in 2004, voting for Senator John Kerry in a state that would undoubtedly swing Republican (and did). North Carolina’s Democratic primary is in May this year, well after the party’s nominee will be chosen. It’s not a nice feeling to think that you “don’t count”, especially right now with our country at a crossroads. I am, for the first time, completely moved to act by one Democratic candidate in particular. That person is Senator Barack Obama, and I am writing to you asking for your endorsement of his candidacy.

I feel that a President shouldn’t be elected on the person’s ideas alone. It’s not just about pro-life vs. pro-choice, pro-war vs. anti-war, or any of the hot topics that the media loves to talk about. It’s also about integrity, character, and leadership. I’d argue that we have lacked some in these areas recently, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you agreed. Now is the time to move this great nation forwards instead of backwards, and I feel that Mr. Obama is the best candidate to do just that. You are a person of great standing in the United States. As a graduate student in the sciences I have nothing but deep respect for your passion to educate our country on global climate change and the perils our planet faces. I’m not alone - there are many, many people who respect your opinion too. Your endorsement of Barack Obama’s campaign would be a huge help.

I urge you to publicly support this great politician.

Thank you very much.

Mr. Gore,

I am writing you today with a plea that is echoed by many. As you yourself have articulated many times, this country is in dire need of change. The economy, the environment, foreign policy, education, health care - all of these issues will face our next President, and the decisions he or she makes will have
serious implications not only for our own futures, but for coming generations.
