The Petition

Mr. Vice President Al Gore,

What began as an improbable campaign less than a year ago has blossomed into a reasonable likelihood that Barack Obama will win the 2008 Democratic nomination. But that victory remains to be seen, and never has it been more necessary for pledges of support to be made for his candidacy.

Several public figures have made such pledges, including Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy earlier this week. Endorsements like these help to sway party voters toward candidates whom they may not yet have fully considered. We need more of them.

Vice President Al Gore, we are calling on you here and now to endorse Senator Barack Obama in his bid for President of the United States. As a man of your accomplishments and stature, your voice will travel farther and louder than the voices of others. Your words will convince swing voters that they should vote not for the Establishment candidate, but for the right candidate.

Mr. Vice President, we are in need of your support, and we are in need of it now. Please endorse Barack Obama and publicly support his candidacy.

–The undersigned.

    From Vancouver, British Columbia…

Obama is exactly what the USA needs to renew people’s confidence in their country. USA is the most powerful nation in the world, and that isn’t only on the military level. The nationalism spirit needs to be aligned and re-focussed not on war, but on rebuilding the nation… the problems at home… and building the trust back in countries such as your neighbors here in Canada. Obama has the power to inspire people for the better of mankind.. we hear him here on TV.. he is a powerful powerful speaker who moves us every time he speaks.. Never before have we seen a leader of his caliber…. and your passion for the environmental concerns that the Earth faces is extremely important for the world to understand, not just North America. Your work with “An Inconvenient Truth” has inspired many, and there is a “green is in” attitude here in Canada.. it’s amazing.. and your video gave the global green message that was needed… Work with Obama and inspire the World to move forth… together, you guys will be able to reach out to more people than individually. Work together to change the World!!

    Mr. Gore,

I could not vote for you in 2000 because you were politicking, not speaking your mind. To be frank, you lost the election, not Nader or anyone else. Since then, you have come out and re-endorsed your own ideas -novel! Now, help the Democrats win this year by endorsing a candidate that people like. If Clinton wins the primary, I don’t think that she will win the election. Obama has a much better chance. While he might be inexperienced, at least I don’t get the feeling like the corporate world owns his whole mind -maybe just half of it. Please endorse Obama.

Vice President and Nobel Price Laureate Albert Gore, I am down on my knees pleading with you to endorse Barack Obama for President. We urgently need him now. Not 4 or 8 years from now after a Clinton(s) (which one and heaven forbid!) Presidency or (even worse yet!) another Republican reign. Sen. Obama, as a man like yourself, is a man of vision, inspiration, grace, dignity, thoughtfulness, wth an authentic voice, who seeks out our similarities and embraces our differences, a great statesman and human being. Is it too much to ask for a President to exhibit good character, statesmanship and grace? That President is Barack Obama.

Please help elect Barack Obama as our next President. Your endorsement would resonate as a sonic boom!

  71. Philippe Cormier Says:

Despite not being an American citizen or resident, I believe that an Obama presidency is essential for the future not only of the United States, but of the world.
Mr Gore, even though I am too young to have been interested in politics during your vice-presidency or your run for the position of President, I admire and thank you for your involvement in solving the issue of global warming.
You are one of the most respected American politician in the world, and for that reason, your endorsement of a presidential candidate would play a huge role in this election.
That is why I must ask you to endorse Barack Obama, the candidate I believe is the best suited for the position of President.
    Thank you
    Sincerely,
    Philippe

  79. Leah Says:

    Mr. Gore,

I ask you to endorse Barack Obama, because I believe he has the most promise of any candidate in really fighting for our environment. This question was asked of Obama by a New Hampshire independent voter, and his response speaks volumes:

“If you could make one change in the world, enact one piece of legislation — one thing, that’s all you’re going to get through in your presidency — what would it be?” asked Peter Colby of Rye, N.H.

After thinking it over for a few seconds, Mr. Obama offered this response:

“I would enact a bold energy policy because I think that we could save so much money, engineer such a resurgence in our economy and solve climate change all at one time. And it would improve our national security posture. So you get a three-fer. It helps our environment, our economy and our national security and it would free up resources over time to deal with what I think is the most important domestic issue which is health care, and I think it would help us strategically on the international stage.”

  80. John Says:

    Dear President Gore,

Please support Barack Obama for President

  81. Sonorous Dogood Says:

You are an honorable man, Vice-President Gore, and an inspiration to our future. 103. Erik H Says:

    Mr Gore-
Barack Obama Is the ONLY candidate that has explicitly stated that he would NOT use the federal governments time and / or money to arrest people who use medical Marijuana. He would prefer to have me arrested than for me to use a natural medicine that i provide myself at little cost. My state has decided that this is legal, and every other candidate supports invasion into the state for their “war on drugs”.

Would you too have me arrested? I”d like to think not.

  113. christian berman Says:

The educated youth of this spoken have chosen their candidate. We know you to be an open mindend proponent of radical change. The clinton’s had their chance, and they did not even come close to fixing this world’s problems. If anything, they led us into another totalitarian regime under a second bush. As a fervernt environmentalist, civil rights activist, and generally well informed young voter, i urge you to endorse obama. If for no other reason, endorse him because of the disadvantages he faces. You know as well as I do that this nation’s power is concentrated in the hands of the wealthy and influential. The superdelegates will decide this race if someone like you does not help educate our population. thank you

  114. christian berman Says:

My first sentence was meant to read “the educated youth of this country have chosen their candidate” , wow its getting too late to be typing. and by the clinton’s i meant the clintons.

  115. Yvonne Jones Says:

I hope this email is reaching you in the best of health and spirits.

It says something powerful when you have the largest pool of small campaign donors in the history of presidential elections. It says something powerful when you can lure 30,000 ordinary people to a political rally, especially when you do so in a country whose leader doesn’t wear fatigues or put his image on the nation’s money.

If President Obama can accomplish two or three of the changes that candidate Obama has laid out, that would be a vast improvement for the country. But what I’m really rooting for is that he will help rekindle that spirit of civic engagement and community that is the lifeblood of this experiment called democracy. In the end, it’s not about Obama. It’s about us!

Please give consideration to endorsing Senator Obama,

  116. Marie Hulswit Says:

Mr. Vice President! Stand with us for change! Yes WE Can!

  117. April Says:

    Former President Gore,

Your leadership and vision are needed to help shepherd the Democratic Party and our nation into a new era. Please endorse Senator Obama for President of the United States. If Bill Clinton had resigned in his last term when the scandals hit you would have been the sitting President in the 2000 election. So much could be different today. For the good of the party and the nation, don’t let this moment pass. Taking us forward will require sacrifice and your endorsement will make all of the difference.

  118. Michael Says:

    GORE AND OBAMA!!!!!!!!

  119. Yusra Says:

Your support would make all the difference. Please help change America and the world.

  120. William Wisniewski Says:

But your good works on environmental issues will not be complete until you obtain a political ally who can draw together the forces of this great nation to work toward saving this good earth for the future of our children and grandchildren. I urge you to endorse Senator Barack Obama for I believe he can bring us all together in this effort.

  121. Jamiah Adams Says:

Mr. Al Gore, I believe in this petition and am a supporter of yours and your fight for the environment and believe that Senator Barack Obama would greatly benefit from your endorsement of his campaign for presidency. I hope that you are strongly considering him and will make an announcement soon. Your values and strength mirror in the candidacy of Barack Obama. Our country needs you both.

Your support could be the deciding factor in this year’s campaign. Senator Barack Obama gives us something we have not had as a country in 8 years, hope. The youth of this country has listened and has realized that he is our candidate. We need you to sway those folks who elected you president a mere 8 years ago in order to ensure that we, the future of this nation, is able to decide its own destiny. Please vote for change and vote for the United States of America. Help us change not only our country, but the world.

  127. Underdog Says:

  133. Kisha Says:

It is with pleasure that I send this online petition!

I am an educated African American female from Kansas. I just turned 30 years old in September, and SUPER TUESDAY was the first time that I had EVER participated in the Kansas Caucus. I usually just wait until November rolls around to vote, but this year is different. This year there is a more than qualified man that is running for presidency, by the name of BARACK OBAMA. He has proved that he has an excellent chance in representing our country. With my decision in backing Barack, it deals with him as a person and what he can do this this country. Not his ethnic background, not where he’s from, not the fact that his WONDERFUL MOTHER is from KANSAS (yea) :o), but him as a person and the front lines experience that he has. I am highly impressed that he has spent many years as an organizer, working hand in hand WITH the people and helping the people that need it most. To me, that IS the most important thing… especially now that there is a candidate that can relate to the American people, he can appeal to the young, the old, the rich, the middle-class, the poor, educated and uneducated, the black, white, brown, yellow, blue, orange… (you get my point)!

This is my first time, EVER, being so excited about an election. I have donated money to the campaign (first time ever doing that), and had one of the best nights of my life during the Kansas Caucus on Super Tuesday. It was an unforgetable moment, that has already taken place in history, and my voice is still hoarse from yelling so loudly, it was as if I won the lottery, I was so excited to be there in support for Obama. One of the organizers at the site in my district said this was the largest crowd, he has seen. He said during the last primary they held, only 40 people showed up. At our district… they had 560 Barack Obama supporters and Hillary had around 240 something. I cannot remember the exact Hillary number… when it comes to her, she doesn’t excite me and make me want to “move mountains.” I do believe that Barack Obama can and will be the answer to many of the problems that we have within the youth community. When he speaks… people listen, and take action. When some of the other candidates speak… many of the youth… me included… just change the channel and do not wish to participate! Although Hillary would be my choice if Barack was not in the race, I do know that I do not want to have a leader that will sit and cry if something tragic happens. I want someone to remain calm and work to get the situation resolved and call on the American people to pitch in to help heal that situation, if it is a natural disaster such as Katrina, or the tornadoes that hit the nation, etc.

I have worked as a college recruiter the past 8 years of my life. I truly understand the importance of education within the country and know the fact is… many people don’t have a chance to go to college. I’ve heard many arguments and debates about people saying it’s a choice, everyone can go if they want to go… and that is not entirely true! I’ve literally seen students go homeless because they are trying to pay tuition to stay in the college or university they attend. I’ve seen families sacrifice eating, paying electricity bills, skim on many other important necessities in order to pay the rising college prices, so their children can have a chance. I once worked for a college that cost $19,000/yr. and they didn’t even have air conditioning in the residence halls. What are these students paying for, and why aren’t there programs that can help to pay these rising costs for those that don’t qualify for a decent aid package!? When I hear Barack Obama talk about those situations with the rising college costs, it hits home, because my mother is one that had made those types of sacrifices so that I could attend and finish college and so that my sister was also able to go to college and medical school where she was the chief resident and now a successful physician in KCK serving a low income community, where many of her patients cannot afford health services! I admire her because often times, she will hold open houses, and free clinics so that people can get checked out without the rising cost of paying an arm and a leg just to get a physical or prescreenings, etc. I believe in Barack’s healthcare plan, and admire his overall gift of being able to unite this country already by telling the world about what he believes can change our nation for the better!

I truly believe that Barack Obama deserves the chance to run this country. It’s been ran so long by the same type of thinking, forgive me for saying, but it’s the same type of BORING thinking that hasn’t gotten the ENTIRE country together talking about politics or giving back to the community, etc. It’s time that we had something different. Everyone talks about change, but Barack Obama lives and breathes the change! He is change and I truly think that you should publicly endorse the candidate of your choice. I do hope that your choice is Barack Obama… but many are wondering what you are thinking. I have heard many talk about how they are going to wait until the National Convention in Denver to come out, but I think the earliest you come out, the more the nation would appreciate knowing, and you could truly help many that are sitting on the fence not sure on who they are going to vote for. Your endorsement of Barack Obama could possibly mean saving our nation from destruction and fear of a positive change!

I have already made a positive change in my life based on Barack Obama. I am the advisor of 3 organizations at the university that I work for, and we have had political debates on our campus about each candidate. We have also planned on getting together as a large group to do community service projects together… there will be more that we will plan, but it’s been through the inspiration of Barack Obama, that many have gotten excited about life again! Although I have voted in the past… I have never cared about an election as much as this one!

I will keep my eyes and ears open to see what candidate you have chosen to endorse, and I do hope this happens SOMETIME SOON!! :o) You are truly respected throughout this county, and your endorsement could make or break someone’s decision. You are a very influential icon! :o)

Thanks in advance for reading my LONG petition, I tend to type fast and free-write my feelings!!! :o)

    GOD BLESS…

    Kisha

    Dear Mr. Gore,
We the people need leadership that guides us to do what we know must be done.
Mr. Gore I wrote to you asking if you would consider running for President and received a very nice letter back from you and Tipper two years ago.
Now I want to ask you to consider endorsing Barrak Obama as he like YOU, shows signs of a GREAT leader. A great leader is not someone who commands excellence, it is someone who can build excellence. Barrak Obama has also show the ability like you to attract and motivate, and most of all inspire. These are such important qualities for our next president to have.
Obama has shown he has strong character, drive, energy, determination and self discipline, and has shown the ability to work successfully with all parties involved in the political system.
Under neath the continually distorted news media sound bites I see a candidate who has the ability to verbalize his vision. He can guide us, the people to want to do what we know must be done.
    Warm regards,
    Debbie R
